2017 Barbareño

93 points - Vinous
A blend of 78% Syrah & 22% Petit Sirah and with dark, ruby red color, this wine jumps from the glass with lifted red berry fruits and rose, followed by black bramble fruit aromas, smoke, vanilla bean, green herbs, and a touch of cigar box. The attack is fresh concentrated black fruit and spice, with a beautifully plush mid-palate of dark cherry, and a finish of dark powder tannins.
Aged for 22 months in a combination of concrete tank, barrique and 400 liter puncheon.
Technical Information
Soil Types:
Linne Clay Loam - this whitish gray soil contains limestone pieces beginning 18”-24” below the surface. The presence of limestone captures and preserves the freshness in this wine, and being a heavier soil lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
Santa Lucia Clay Loam - This soil lends itself to brighter, oral aromatics and lower pH. Being a heavier soil it also lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
