This estate syrah brings all the layers from the variety of syrah plantings at Refugio Ranch (6 blocks comprised of 4 different clones). The first impression is a beautifully lifted nose of violets, blueberry, blackberry, cracked pepper, and hints of seared meat. The wine is powerful with great density, all the while maintaining its poise and freshness. Aged 18 months in 100% French oak (roughly 40% new), mixed between large format 400L, 300L, and 228L barrels.
Soil Type: Linne Clay Loam - this whitish gray soil contains limestone pieces beginning 18”-24” below the surface. The presence of limestone captures and preserves the freshness in this wine, and being a heavier soil lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
